Searching for cows in a Clark County neighbourhood

Day 3 of searching for cows had us looking for 157 of the little buggers that seem to be able to hide so well from all of us.

We rode out from the ranch into the national forest again with a great group all on our trusty stead’s and headed to a few places that none of us had been before. But alas, those cows were somewhere else.

Earlier in the morning, the Rancher got a call that a few of the cows had made their way into a local neighbourhood in the county – when I say neighbourhood, there were only about 16 or so houses down there – about 5 miles from the ranch.

So we decided since we hadn’t had any luck finding cows in the forest, let’s trailer to the neighbourhood and go look for the ones that people had been complaining about. We drove around a little bit and couldn’t see any cows, but Jen, Dan, Myself and two wranglers decided we needed to look further on horseback and see what we could find.

So off we trotted down people’s driveways in search of cows – we didn’t even know how many were down here. A few folk came out of their homes and said yeah they had seen cows earlier but weren’t sure where they were now.

Then, SUCCESS, after walking down a long drive way we ran into the owner of that house and he said they had been there in the morning and to wait as they will come back at night. We couldn’t wait, so we said we’d look around a bit and then yes, we found 7 cows.

7 cows and 5 people on horseback – we had to get them out of the neighbourhood, past a swampy area (which they love) and then back to the ranch 4 miles down the road – this is going to be interesting!!!!

At first they were a little hyper and headed straight into the swampy area, while we were trying to get them back down the drive way we just rode down. Thankfully it didn’t take us too long to get them back on the driveway and we were off again.

We finally got them down onto the road, now was the test. We needed to keep them on the road and not dive off to the side and slowly drive them down the road, keeping the horses quiet and slow . . . AND, also watch out for cars.

Two hours later and no dramas we were back at the ranch with 7 cows – we rocked it!!!!
