New York (part 3) more photos

Last lot of photos from wandering the streets of New York. Visited a few restaurants and bars that were on my New York list.

Refinery Rooftop Restaurant & Bar has a great view of the Empire State Building. I’d been wanting to go for a while so it was nice to get there and see it in person. Very well designed space with a clear roof so its accessible in the winter time as well.

Next stop was the Bowery Market, but more specifically Sushi on Jones – WOW, the best sushi experience I’ve had outside of Japan. Its a little stall and it only sits 4 people at a time and you only have 30 minutes to ENJOY the omakase – ‘chef’s selection’ of different types of nigiri sushi. There is the normal, salmon, tuna, scallop, prawn and then there is the wagyu beef, that they cook slightly with the little blow torch and then you get another wagyu beef topped with uni. All in all it was delicious!! I will definitely go back there again.

Then I headed to Tacombi (Fonda Nolita) down in the Nolita area where there is an amazing mexican restaurant that has a combi van in it where they prepare some of the food. The food and margaritas were on point!!!

After that it was time to explore the East Village and do a little bit of shopping – god knows how I am going to fit everything into my suitcase.

My plan after that was to head to Bryant Park to watch Mircale of 34th Street at an open air cinema but as I got out of Times Square station, it started teeming with rain so I ran into the restaurant to sit at the bar til the rain stopped. The rain never stopped so I wiled away a few hours talking to New Yorkers about my trip, US sports and the one that everyone wants to talk about but no one wants to raise, Politics. Some very funny and interesting conversations were had.

And then my last few hours was spent wandering around Central Park before heading to Penn Station in the craziest and scariest taxi ride ever – I had my eyes closed most of the trip and braced for impact, thankfully there was none. I would certainly never want to drive in NYC.
