Wilmington, North Carolina

For those that don’t know, Wilmington is a riverside town in North Carolina. Its Historic District (or Downtown) sits right on the banks of the Cape Fear river. It is beautiful, with some of the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen (and I love a great sunset). The sun sets on the other side of the river where it looks just mostly swamp-ish but was once rice fields. Plus there is a big old battleship that the sun sets behind too – mmm, don’t think I’m selling the beautiful picture too well, so I’ll go through my photos and post a pic to show the beauty, I clearly can’t write about it :-).

It’s also home to ‘Hollywood of the East’. Alot of movies and TV shows have been filmed in and around Wilmington. And I can see why. I saw one last night actually, it was for the TV show: Sleepy Hollow. The set looked quite cool and then when I walked past it today – completely different – just a parking a lot. Ah, the magic of TV and film.

It is a little surreal being in a town that is so familiar to me because of the movies and tv but yet, never visited.

I haven’t met many people here, most of them stick to themselves, but so super nice when you do speak to someone. Guess it’s not like the touristy spots of the big cities where everyone just wants to chat. But it has been nice just to chill out and have some me time. I’m loving it, so no one worry – this maybe just my longest post because I need to talk, hahahaha.

The drive down from Washington was great. Just me, the open road, music blaring, roof down (and yes, heater was on at times as it was a little bit cold). Trac, picture the trip down the PCH 2 years ago, scarves, heater and me refusing to put the top up). My taxi driver to the car rental was amazing, called a mate to see which highways I need to use to get here, which was great as for the first hour of the trip, me and the sat nav were not bonding!!! I’ve never used one and struggled to put the address in of the hotel here in Wilmington, but I eventually worked it out and now we are great mates!!! And there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I’ve been so lucky with the weather over here. Only that one rainy day in New York so far.

Tomorrow I’m off driving again. Yay, can’t wait to get back into the car. Heading to Covington, Georgia.
