NYC – I’m going to live there one day!

Well, New York certainly surpassed all expectations. What an AMAZING city! I was blown away by it all and didn’t even get close to  seeing all I wanted to see. Just means I’ll be back next year. Met some wonderful characters, had a ball with everything I did and all I saw.

Everybody is just so lovely and helpful, I can’t wait to go back.

So yesterday I started with a plan of checking the veiw from the Top of Rock, then go to the Guggenhiem, via the Metroplitaon Museum of Art, skip through Central Park, check out the High Line and the Meatpacking district.

Here’s how that went armed with my umbrella:

  • It was raining and so overcast so I didn’t think the view from the Top of Rock would be any good (a couple of people I asked confirmed that).
  • The Gugg is closed on Thursdays, yesterday WAS Thursday. So no Gugg for me.
  • The Met was packed thanks to the rain and line to get in was long. So no Met for me.
  • Central Park was very wet, but still beautiul. So no skipping for me.
  • It was too wet for the highline to be really enjoyed.
  • The Meatpacking distict was great.
All in all, I had a GREAT day, thoroughly loved it all and was not disappointed in the slightest – I LOVE NY.
Then in the evening, I started on a pre-booked bar crawl (when i say started, I lasted two drinks before leaving). Everyone was quite young and only 5 mins in, I was accosted by a very close talking asian guy from Adelaide (of all places), then a couple of lesbians tried to hit on me – they weren’t on the bar crawl, but apparently the bar where the pub crawl met was called “Black Fat Pussy Cat” aand also  a gay bar as well as the meeting place for the bar crawl. We were supposed to go to four other bars, play drinking games, and get to know each other (or just get really drunk), so after my second drink I thought, this isn’t for me, time to finish up and go where I had been recommended to go, “Please Don’t Tell (PDT)” – a little cocktail bar, which you enter through a phone booth in a hot dog place – very, very cool – thanks to Geoff and Riley for telling me about this place.
So I hailed a cab from the Black Fat Pussy Cat, the driver had no idea where PDTs was so luckily earlier that day I’d taken a photo on my phone of the details for PDTs – we got there in the end. The driver loved that I had done that.
So after making the call in the phone booth, I only had to wait 10 minutes for entry, I was led in to a seat at the bar.

I ordered my first Old Fashioned (I won’t tell how many I enjoyed there), then this couple sat down next to me. They were on a ‘date’ from Boston, still don’t quite know their story but from what I could tell, they hadn’t been together for long, he flew her down here as he was in town for business, but they both prefered to engage in conversation with me and hear my travel stories. I didn’t want to pry, but I was dying to know. They were lovely tho and very entertaining for a few hours. Much better than anyone I was going to meet on the pub crawl (sorry close talking guy from Adelaide). Great night.

Today, I walked through the Financial District, over Brooklyn Bridge, down through to Dumbo, caught a ferry to Pier 11, walked down Wall Street, to the 9/11 Memorial, through SOHO and around Little Italy – Great Day!!!

The 9/11 Memorial took my breath away, I had no idea of the size of it til I saw it.

On my way to DC now enjoying the train ride, Washington or bust!!!
