When I was booking my accommodation through AirBnB, I found a great experience: ‘Beach Bike & Brews Afternoon Cruise’ around Wrightsville Beach.
Wrightsville Beach is a gorgeous little beach town that is a 4 mile long island. It’s absolutely beautiful.
So I met my tour guide, Brad, at a local pub on the island. It was just me on the tour, so for the first few minutes it was a little awkward, like a first date. We were just getting to know each other.
Our first stop for a beer was Dockside, a bar I was wanting to go to but didn’t think I get the chance to as I was beginning to run out of days, so this was great.
By the end of our first beer, Brad and I were the best of buds. He’d recently spent time in Oz and also at the sure camp in Arrawarra (near Coffs Harbour), so we had a lot to chat about.
Next stop was a little local bottle shop wth a beer garden next door where you drink your beer. It is such a cool little place, called the Lighthouse. Here we ran into a few of Brad’s mates and planned to meet up later once the tour was over. Apparently I was quickly becoming a Wrightsville Local.
Next was a great him e to the other end of the island to Oceanic and Crystal Pier. This place a was very popular surfing spot as well. So we grabbed another beer and walked to the end of pier and watched the surfers. It was messy surf due to the tropical storm Humberto that was brewing out to sea but great to just hang out and watch.
Next was a ride to our last bar, this time a dive bar. I love a good American dive bar.
So after a few hours, I had seen so much more of the island than I could have imagined, visited some great local spots and met a lot of fun locals. Love being made to feel like a local when I’m travelling.
Another great afternoon well spent.
