2018 Roadtrip Days 3, 4 & 5 – Guerneville, CA to Astoria, OR

Well, it’s been a wonderful few days driving from Guerneville, California right up to

Astoria, Oregon! Roughly about 668 miles, (1,075 km). But it didn’t feel that far, so, what was it like . . .  ?

AMAZING, driving up the Northern California coast and into Oregon is just so beautiful.

The big tall Redwood Trees are just stunning! Still, think they could touch the sky.

I even got to drive through one, a kitschy tourist stop, where I was a little concerned of the rental car getting scratched but I made it through and no scratch, giggling all the way.

Next up was the Avenue of the Giants, WOW!!! Talk about Mother Nature making you feel pretty small in the grand scheme of things – Beautiful!! Would happily drive it again, and did think about turning around and going again.

I started off at the south entrance and not knowing beforehand that it didn’t end there, my sat nav nearly ended up out the sunroof as it kept trying to tell me to get off at this exit or that exit, but the avenue and the trees just kept going, so I kept driving and so glad I did.

I lost count the number of times I gasped at the sheer beauty of it all.

And then it was driving over and around mountains with low hanging cloud, it was a little hard to see the landscape at times, but always safe.

Everything looked eery through the mist and then catching glimpses of the stunning and dramatic coastline when the mist cleared was beautiful.  At one point, I looked down the cliff and it was just all white and fluffy thanks to the cloud – couldn’t even see the ocean!

The two nights accommodation through this amazing road trip were Crescent City, California and Nye Beach, Oregon. Nye Beach showed me the BEST sunset I have ever seen.

And now I’m in Astoria, Oregon, home of the Goonies. One of my favourite childhood movies! I’ll explore it tomorrow!
