The best lil ranch in Texas

Life on the ranch was AMAZING!!!

After a quick little detour to check out the town of Graham, we arrived at Wildcatter early afternoon. Checked right in and began exploring. And it was hot, damn Texas hot, so off to the infinity pool we went. Everything about this place, so far, was perfect.

The saloon opened at 5pm, so we took a seat at the bar and settled in for the night. Meeting other travellers and chatting to the staff about life on the road. We were told to try the Texas steak, wow, delish!

Later on a few locals came in and the minute they heard our Aussie accents they sat down to join us at the bar, then they tried to teach us how to dance the Texas Two Step. And it’s not as easy as it looks. Much fun was had.

Next morning we fed the Longhorn bulls, very cool. In the afternoon we had our private horse ride around one of the many trails on the ranch with hot Cowboy Nick. Thankfully we didn’t see any rattle snakes on our ride. Earlier that day on the group ride, one of the horses stepped right over one on their trail – eek. Later that day we had a jeep ranch tour and thankfully, hot Cowboy Nick was our guide for that hour too – yippee, another hour spent with our favourite Wildcatter cowboy.

Then it was time for the saloon again. Caught up with our new travelling friends on the day everyone had. Enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the bartender, who we now refer to as Papa John. He is a cop and the local bartender, very cool man. Another fun evening and delicious meal, this time we tried Chicken Fried Steak – a peice of steak tenderised, rolled in a corn milk batter and then deep fried, just like you would a chicken breast – impressive.

Next day it was one final feeding of the Longhorns,  then time to bid a very sad farewell to Wildcatter Ranch and all the lovely people we met.

We will miss: “yes m’am” “y’all” “y’all are welcome” and “y’all are so nice”. And the Texan way in general. Texas, I think I will miss you most of all.
