Wow, what an amazing city!! I’ve never seen a place like it before. From the Old Town, the boats on the creek, the old Souks, the desert, the world’s biggest shopping mall to the tallest building in the world – it really does have everything.
Our adventure started at the old souks (gold & spice market) along the Dubai Creek – on the hottest day I’ve ever felt!!! Wow, it was HOTTTTTT. After exploring the souks and having Cass barter for a scarf for me as the one I had to cover my shoulders was increasing my already highly elavated body temp, we jumped on a little creek boat to try to grab a nice water breeze – yeah, that never happened til the driver turned the boat around and we headed back to our destination.
After that we had a little more sightseeing of the ‘Old Town’ before the 3 of us had had enough of the heat. At one point, Cass and Mark thought my face was really sunburnt, but no, apparently in extreme heat, my face turns BEETROOT red!!! It was time to head back to the sanctuary of the hotel airconditioning and also the pool.
The pool was a refreshing 29 degrees 🙂 but still nice to cool off and escape the 42 degree desert heat – don’t get me wrong, I was loving it but still struggling in the heat.
Later that afternoon, we had a pick up at 4pm for our desert safari adventure – and what an adventure that was. An hour’s drive out to the desert for 45 minutes of sand dune bashing. So much FUN!!! This was followed by a bbq in the safari camp.
Checked out the biggest shopping mall – it was nice to be in air conditioning for a couple of hours. Enjoyed a great dinner Nobu restaurant at the Atlantis hotel at the Palms.
And visited the tallest building in the world the Burj Khalifa – what amazing views of Dubai from the 124th floor.
It was very much a whirl wind tour but so much fun. Dubai is now checked off my travel bucket list.
